Election issues
In general, a lot of us are struggling with the implications of such a large proportion of the citizenry being structurally indifferent to the financial integrity of the country. If you pay no taxes, or your paycheck comes from taxes (including the large number of public employees), then you are less likely to vote against your vested interest of more taxes, more spending, and/or more debt.

So, at the margins there is an erosion of civic duty, and a severe bias toward the "Bread and Circuses" concept of Juvenal.

In all seriousness, we won't have the luxury of squabbling about social issues if we can't summon the national will to balance our checkbooks.

Back?? Well, maybe...
Now that I've been officially retired from HP for all of three weeks, I have a lot of things to take care of before the REAL relaxation can begin.

The list includes, but is not limited to, getting our three girls through college.  :)

Liberte
Jay Schindler taught a group of us how to play this fine game on Wednesday night.

Libert

Our game ended with a Royalist counter-revolution, thereby stealing my good chance at achieving a normal victory.

There were a few rules we didn't get quite right, but I'm looking forward to playing Liberte many times.
